Wonderfully Bold Late 1940s Tropical printed Dress in Crimson Organza with Chartruese Floral

  • Product Description

A tropical paradise of a dress, this unusual very late 1940s or early 1950s dress is bold, rich, ready to make a most dramatic entrance. It is almost certainly home or custom made, sewn on an evening dress pattern. The printed layer is crisp, sheer organza  in a crimson hue, printed with plumeria and a large, fringed flower in bud form, still opening. The flowers are brightly contrasted in chartreuse with complimentary blue leaves.  it is lined with celanese in the same crimson hue. The cut is simple but elegant with much body in the skirt. The dress closes with metal side zipper.

Bust: 37.5" - tecnically a snug 38" but due to a history of having been worn a bit too snug, I recommend 37"
      Waist: 27"
      Hips: 70"
      Length: 52"

Label: None Present, home or possibly custom made
      Material: Wool
Condition: Good, as is with small flaws

This dress has been dry cleaned, and is ready to wear. There is a repaired split in the organza at the front right, just under the waist seam. The backside of the zipper has three such splits - one repaired and two that are best left as is.  My best guess is that these occurred struggling with the zipper, so I would caution against wearing this too tight. The vibrant print helps to disguise the imperfections, and it is otherwise quite sturdy and wearable!
