Vintage 1940s Coat - True Red Wool Late 40s Winter Coat with Full Sleeves and Black Top Stitching

  • Product Description

A late 1940s coat of rich red, this classic piece is made to keep you warm and stylish. I had originally dated this by texture and cut as 50s, but the label "Helen Heilig" looks purely 30s, and the lining is a perfectly black rayon crepe. And these sleeves! It's a really unusual piece, though, with it's heavily padded shoulders, massive raglan sleeves and straight fit. The collar is small, and edges with black yarn top stitching, which is echoed on the cuffs. The coat closes with three squared buttons that sit like diamonds - there are smaller ones to close the sleeves. A really bold and unique coat coat in a striking color. It's also very warm - the interlining is wool batting topped with cotton on the backside of the rayon crepe.

      Shoulders: 17"
      Bust: 45"
      Waist: 46"
      Hips: 48"
      Length: 38.5"
      Sleeve: 23.5"

      Label: Helen Heilig
      Material: Wool
      Condition: Good, as is

This coat is freshly drycleaned and ready to wear. The fuzzy mohair texture of the wool has pilling a bit with age, and there is rubbing to the edges of the cuffs, as are the button holes. I find no other issues to note - all the buttons are present and the pocket have no holes.
