Vintage 1920s Coat - Rare and Striking 20s Coat in Ivory Raw Silk with Bright Indian Kutch Embroidery, Egyptian Revival Era
Vintage 1920s coat is unique and truly fashion relevant today. This beauty is the epitome of it's time, a straight coat with low closure, embellished with striking embroidery work that was thought of as exotic. The Egyptian revival era saw a huge surge of interest in textile arts from outside the western world. The body is ivory raw silk, fashioned into a faille. The Indian Kutch embroidery work is richly colored - red, and purple and teal and orange, with voided areas that are a natural color. You can see a nearly identical coat on stylish lady of the era, paired with a matching drop waist dress and brimmed cloche.
Label: None Present
Material: Raw Silk, Cotton Embroidery
Condition: Good plus, as is
This coat is ready to wear as-is I have not cleaned it. There is mild age tanning to the silk which is not entirely even, and some scattered, light, minor spots. The embroidery is bright and bold, but upon very close inspection I realized some of the back stitches have falledn through throughout, but the design is still clearly defined, and as it is busy, this doesn't stand out. I find no other issues to note.
