Sweet Late 1930s Cold Rayon Day Dress with Puffed Sleeves and Folkwear Inspired Floral
This late 1930s dress is really charming. Somehow, I feel the photos don't do it justice - the print looks flat and busy in them when it pops with vibrant color in person. A very folkwear inspired pattern of tulips, daisy and forget me notes is mixed with circles and dots on a black ground. The collar is high and trimmed with white cotton ruffle which is echoed on the cuff. The short sleeves are puffed with sturdy sleeve headers for shape. The bodice closes with six delicate square mother of pearl buttons. The skirt is shirred for fullness. The dress closes with a metal zipper on the side, almost certainly added, that has a fabric replacement pull.
Length: 38" + 2 tucks are added at the hem, could be let out to 40"
Label: None Present
Condition: Good, as is, with repairs
This dress has been dry cleaned and is ready to wear. Someone previous patched and darned some strain holes and fray along the underarm seams, and I've interfaced over that just in case. It's not a large area on either side, but better safe that sorry! There's a little strain along the stitches of the yoke at front. The zipper is probably added, and has a ribbon as the pull. I find no other issues to note. It's sturdy and wearable.
