Smart Late 1940s Rayon Day Dress with Matching Faille Jacket As Is
I couldn't resist this smart set, even though it's as-is piece- it's just so wearable. The dress is short sleeveed with a portrait collar and shirring to give the skirt some drape. The jacket is black faille, and it has a large, winged collar that matches the dress, along with smartly turned cuffs. The framed images in the print are Greek soldiers and women playing lyres. The dress closes on the side with a sturdy metal zipper, the jacket has no closure.
Label: None Present
Material: Rayon, Wool
Condition: Fair, but sturdy and wearable, as is
This set has been dry cleaned and is ready to be worn. The ivory has tanned unevenly throughout the dress, although this doesn't really stand out. The most important flaw is that something snagged and tore this at about the location of the right buttock. I cut scraps from the selvage, matched them as best I could, and used fusible interfacing to secure them in place. There is a close up - please look at that before purchase. I used the lightest weight interfacing available, made for silk wedding gowns, so as you can see in the photos, the skirt still drapes properly. This is being sold at a bargain price that underscores the damage, but which undersells how wearable the dress is now that it is repaired.
