Rare Nude Illusion 1940s Dorothy O'Hara Cocktail Dress with Nude Illusion Bust and Wicked Points

  • Product Description

An alluring cocktail dress we by the queen-of-drape, Dorothy O'Hara. This rare 1940s piece is made of black rayon crepe with contrasting nude bust, and I have to say this one just takes no prisoners. The nude illusion is mixed with lace and sheer chiffon for a scandalous look.. The skirt has two wicked points below waist, and a center inset pleat that provides just the right amount of drape. This phenomenal number closes with a back metal zipper, and has a hook at the waist to hold the zipper placket closed. I deem it to be from earlier in the label's history, probably around 1947-1949.

I have had this dress before, and it's important for me to note the dress is missing an original detail, heartbreakingly removed - this would originally have had pointed shoulders lined in the same nude illusion of the bust. The last photo is of that dress - NOT the one for sale here.

      Bust: 37"
      Waist: 26"-28"
      Hips: 38"-41"
      Length: 49.5"

Label: Fashion Forecast by Dorothy O'Hara California
      Material: Rayon
      Condition:  Good plus

This beauty is clean and ready to wear. As noted, the back yoke has been altered, the shoulders removed (heartbreak!) I find no other issues to note. If I had never seen the original version, I would have rated this Very Good minus. Priced at 2/3rds the price of the other.
