Rare Late 1930s Unique Two Piece Dress in Black, Mustard, Grey & Ivory
Note: I was unable to color correct these in time for posting - the yellow is a much richer mustard. Please disregard the blue cast.
This fantastic 1930s ensemble is one of the best examples of unique late 30s design that I have seen in some time. A notch above our treasured puff sleeve rayon crepe, this two part dress is high textured, made in a marvelous palette and offers a truly wonderful use of stripes. The “dress” is really no more than a skirt - it isn't meant to be worn separately from the matching jacket - although you could also easily pair it with a sweater or tailored jacket. The bodice of this skirt has a high waistline, and is made of a satiny lining material. This part closes with hooks and eyes, while the skirt itself has a zipper. The stripes of this frisée textured rayon blend are hidden in the tight pleats, so they show as you move. The matching blouse maximizes use of the stripes - black, mustard, grey and white - using them as accents and at different orientations. This has a longer waist than you might expect, probably to allow for a sporty bloused effect, but it makes the set fit a taller collector well. This closes with hidden snaps and has a working buckle on the waist.

This set is has been dry cleaned and is ready to wear. The blouse is fresh with no flaws I find to note! The bodice of the slip portion is dingy with some mild staining, but this would never be seen when worn. I find no other issues to note! All exterior areas of the set could be graded as excellent.
