RESERVED on Layaway- RARE Late 1930s Evening Gown in Saturated Vermillion Orange-Red with Beaded Midwaist

  • Product Description

Vintage late 1930s dress offers a brilliant pop of color for your wardrobe. This saturated cinnabar hued rayon crepe is heavy, a fabric as dramatic as the gown it was used for. The shoulders are padded, the sleeves shirred. Shirring at the shoulders and midwaist creates drape on the sultry, exceptionally low cut surplice bodice. The standout is the mid-waist, a curving shape that is heavily embellished - golden soutach at the edges, then filled with red and pewter beads, studded red rhinestones, and enameled, faceted beads for the leaves of flowers.  Below the midwaist, the skirt is heavily pintucked in flaring gores, which create the accordion pleated shape. A leaf-shaped buckle closes the attached belt at back. The dress closes on the side with a sturdy metal zipper.

This dress has been dry cleaned and is ready to wear. The skirt has some subtle fade along the lower sides and toward the hem, and there is a little fade at the upper back as well. The pleating and volume of the skirt help disguise it, but it is not dramatic in any case. The faceted beads for flower petals hae lost much of their enamel, and a couple are missing. The dress is sturdy and saturated, I find nothing else to note!
