Rare Late 1930s Dress Silk in Burgundy Rayon Charmeuse Satin with Lace Redingote XL As Is

  • Product Description

Vintage late 1930s dress and matching redingote make a dramatic set in a plummy burgundy. The two pieces use the contrast of texture and tone to really change the look of the ensemble. The set embodies a late 30s silhouette, with perfectly puffed sleeve shoulders and a sleek gored skirt. The dress itself is rayon charmeuse, liquid and lovely. The shoulders have exceptional, thick shoulder pads. There's shirring at the top of the sleeves, which narrow to the cuff, and use darts to have a proper fit for the natural bend of the arm. The best part is the neckline, with pleats gathered in an upwards v. The rest of the dress is simple, with a waist that is not entirely fitted, as there's no side closure, but it's definitely intended to be worn with a belt if you eschew the jacket. The matching redingote is a delicate cotton and silk lace with puffed shoulders and satin trim - and satin covered buttons, which are really the best part. It changes the whole mood of the dress!

I've priced this set as if it were just the dress with no jacket. The lace of the jacket is delicate and has small and medium breaks throughout - I repaired a number before realizing that it's really just at a point where it's as is nature need to be accepted. It still wears very well, but won't last forever. The dress I have handwashed, to eliminate a dark water stain at the mid right front of the skirt. It's still faintly there, but much less notable. However, I then caused some tiny water spots steaming it, so it will be hand washed, gently, one more time before you receive it. There is some light wear and surface lifting of the satin finish, but it's not noted when worn - this rich hue just glows in the light. The set presents beautifully. I find no other issues to note.
