Rare 1950s Novelty Print Wiggle Dress Made of 1940s Silk Border Print with Matching Vest

  • Product Description

This rare 1950s novelty print dress is really interesting. I believe it is homemade, and that the fabric is notably older than the dress itself - likely a late 30s or 1940s print. And, unlike many 50s border prints, itis executed in a raw silk. I almost wonder if it is an earlier dress, maybe a 30s juniors piece, that was altered later. This print is absolutely fabulous, it grabbed me right away, but took me a while to work out - the theme is dancers in traditional dress, maybe based in Cuban design. The colors are bright and primary plus a touch of brown, all on a pale seafoam silk ground. The dress is a sleek and very fitted sheath, with the bodice cut on the bias and slim hips. The matching vest - you'll get so much wear from this - is a cropped style, sleeveless, with hooks up the front. It would look amazing with a full sleeved blouse underneath. The dress closes with hooks along the shoulder (one of the reasons I think it might be an older dress, remade) and a side metal zipper.

This dress is has been ozoned, but has not been cleaned as I do not have a trustworthy cleaner for printed silk. The dress has a small stain at the neckline with minor breakage caused by the stain. There is some lightness at the underarms, and a few light - but not weak - spots in the skirt. There are a couple small snags to the silk of the vest. The color is vibrant, and the silk is sturdy for wear. I find no other issues to note!
