Rare 1950s Jantzen International "Vapor Stripes" Red, Pink & White Swimsuit
This vintage late 1950s Jantzen is such a rare and special find. This deadstock swimsuit still bears the original tags! A fone piece beauty with boned cups and a very clever, flattering use of stripes, it has skirting at front, full coverage bottoms adjustable straps. The bands are red, pink and white, in a velvet like texture. It is very sturdy, closing up the back with a strong metal zipper and hidden hook.
I found this clever ad for the suit from May 1959 - note the original cost of $18.95 - about $166 in 1959's currency, although this lucky girl picked it up on markdown for $12.90 - $114.00.
"Jantzen, the master CPA in rounded
figures puts a new one on the ledger!
"Vapor Stripes" of luxurious Tycora
that looks and feels like cut velvet.
Notice how the stripes running around
and up and down make assets of even
the slightest liability. "Vapor
Stripes" in wonderful color
combinations 18.95. "
Additionally, the tag has a size guide - this is a vintage 14, and recommended for 125-139 lbs.
Bust: 34"- 39"
Label: Jantzen, Jantzen Internationals "Vapor Stripe"
Material: "Tycora, Cotton and Laton" - i.e., unknown synthetic blend with cotton
This suit is clean, fresh and completely unworn. It is in absurdly excellent condition, so fresh it could have come off the rack yesterday. The lining is clean and original tag is still attached. Truly a fantastic rarity.
