Rare 1950s Hawaiian Cotton Dress with Matching Child's Dress in Novelty People Print
This wonderful late 50s set of dresses is really something special. As a preservationist, please, let me beg you - if you purchase this dress and don't have a little to wear to the child's dress, please keep the set together, so that when you are done with it, the next owner will get the set intact! I seldom beg, but please don't separate them or use the child's dress as a raw material.
The palette for the dresses is bright and primary, featuring green, red, yellow on a background of ocean blue. The people print is detailed, featuring islanders making nets, fishing with nets, paddling outriggers, dancing the hula and more. This dress is all cotton and is cut for the curves of the body. It has the high mandarin style neckline used by pake muu. The sleeves and vented sides of the dress are trimmed with yellow. The dress closes up the side with a sturdy metal zipper.
The matching children's dress is a simple shift, accented with red cotton, that pulls over the head.
Label: Made in Hawaii

This dress is bright and saturated, and the cotton is crisp and striking. I find no issues to note on either piece.
