Old Hollywood 1930s Starlet Gown in Brilliant Aqua with Low Back
I don't think it would be possible to overstate the physical feeling of luxury this gown has. The silk lining is like lingerie, soft and thin and pliable, bias cut to hug your curves. It's slightly lustrous, lending a subtle dimension to the silk chiffon overlay. The chiffon is generously cut with a dramatic flare and defined train. It moves around with even the slightest breeze. If you've ever wanted to feel like Cyd Charisse in THAT scene from Singin' in the Rain, you've found it here. This gown wants to move. The straps are each three very fine spaghetti straps, bound together at the shoulder, spaced out where they met the low back. This piece slips over the head -it has no closures. The bias cut give is so generous, you won't need it.
Unlike most 30s dresses, this dress WANTS you to have hips. If you have curvy hips, the slip will fit better, and won't hang below the front hem of the dress.
Bust: 36" more draped to 39" snug
Length at front: 56"
Length at Rear: 62"
Attached Slip measurements differ slightly
This seems it is meant to be worn on curvier hips - hips of 36" aren't sufficient to raise the length of the slip to the hem of the dress.
Label: None Present
Material: Silk Chiffon
Condition: Very Good minus
This dress has been gently cleaned. There remains a handful of smallish spots along the hem at the left front side, and one small spot a bit further up on the left side of the skirt. Vexingly, this piece water spots easily, and I'm afraid my steamer caused some very faint marks. through the front of the skirt - I mostly removed them with more steam, so they are VERY subtle and will come out with a subsequent dry clean. There's a couple water spots on the slip as well, but nothing that would be seen when worn. The dress is incredibly sturdy - shockingly so, almost, given it's luxurious, delicate feel. Definitely one for a discerning collector!
