Lush 1940s Bemburg Rayon Day Dress in Black and Blue with Winding White Print
Vintage 1940s dress in delicious, lightweight bemburg rayon. This dress is delightful, breezy and semi-sheer. The print is somewhat unusual, an abstract that I at first took for wings - maybe doves, and then leaves before realizing it was neither. I'm definitely calling the little blue dots for blueberries, thought. What makes the print unique is that a band of the ground is blue, changing the print one where the back is really negative space. I love the effect. The sleeves are short, the collar pleated at the sides of the neck. The bodice is a faux double-breasted shirtwaist - the dress actually closes on the side with a zipper. The skirt is a flattering sleek 6-gore style.

Material: Bemburg Rayon
Condition: Good plus, as is with minor repairs.
Someone fiddled with the pleating at the collar, sewing it closed with rough hand stitches that I removed. The pleat gives it some lift, and I think they were trying to flatten it. There's a couple little pulls in the bemberg from removing the stitches. I've interfaced two frayed snag holes on the back, one in black, and one in black and white interfacing to match the print. The interior selvage is frayed from being washed. I find no other issues to note, this wears beautifully.
