Ideal Late 1930s/Early 1940s Puffed Sleeve Day Dress in Navy with Red Trim

  • Product Description

Vintage late 1930s dress is absolute style perfection in navy blue rayon crepe. It embodies a late 30s silhouette, with lightly padded ideal sleeve shoulders and a swishy skirt with long stitched down pleats that open midway. The dress has a smart neckline, a narrow v that is edged in red grosgrain - the trim continues to either side, edging gathers at the yoke. The sleeves are trimmed with the same ribbon. Six darts fit the bodice, meeting the the pleats of the skirt. The temptation to keep this is very, very strong, but it's not my size. It closes on the side with a sturdy metal zipper.

      Shoulders: 15"
      Bust: 42"
      Waist: 31"
      Hips: 50"
      Length: 43.5"

Label: None Present, quite likely homemade
      Material: Heavy Rayon crepe
      Condition: Good plus

This dress is clean and ready to wear. The rayon is very heavy, usually so, and so quite sturdy. There is wear to the fabric at the underarms, even with some small frays on the seams, but the sleeves are partly lined, and the dress doesn't feel compromised at all. There is a little strain at the end of the darts, and a few little snags to the crepe, but they don't stand out at all. Very beautiful, strong and ready to wear.
