Vintage 1940s dress in a terrific silk novelty print in chartreuse, ivory and ocean blue and black line illustration. At first, I was trying to work out if it was a shopping scene of New York or Paris, but then I located a policeman's silhouette, and realized it is London. There's houses and tourist shops, cityscapes with busy, smoking chimneys, man in white tie attire and ladies in dramatic New Look frocks. This piece is almost certainly made just at the edge of the 1940s - best dated to 1949/50. The neckline is a v at front and at back. The components are cut on the bias, including the softly draped, pleated skirt. The sleeves are unique, with pleats gathered to the arm scye, then tacked in a lovely, textural manner. This beauty closes with a long metal zipper up the back.

This dress is clean and ready to wear. Some of the tacks on the sleeves had fallen out, and I had to work out how to place them so they were relatively similar side to side - they aren't perfect, but not in a way that stands out. There are five small, faint spots in the bodice that my dry cleaner improved but could not remove - but the print is so busy, you really have to look to see them. There is VERY mild, faint tanning under the arms. The silk is strong without breaking, fade or weakness. I find no other issues to note!
