Gorgeous Early 1940s Three Piece Suit in Black Wool Crepe - Skirt, Jacket and Coat
My photos don't do this phenomenal ensemble justice at all - it's so commanding and sophisticated. This three piece suit comes with an overcoat, jacket, and skirt. Each piece is quintessential and a marvelous basic on it's own. The skirt is classically cut in 40s fashion, six gores with a slight a-line. It closes with an early 40s bell zipper on the side. The jacket and coat both have moderate but sturdy shoulders, and the silhouette when worn together is crisp. The sleeves of the jacket are wide, pleated at the shoulder, and have unique piece work that is more notable in person than these photos. Faux pockets accent the chest. The buttons look like half of a nautilus, and alternate black-with-brown and black-with-blue. The original sash was attached in the past at the right side seam, ensuring it would never be lost.
The coat is a straight, simple style - the sort of coat you can wear all season long. It closes with a single self-fabric button.
Waist: 26.5"- snug 27"
Label: None Present
Material: Wool Crepe. Silk Lining, Celanese Lining
Condition: Very Good minus
This suit is in very good condition overall. The overcoat is in good condition, but I noticed when buttoning it that the edge of the button is frayed, and although it's self-fabric, it feels like a hastily made replacement. I didn't locate the source of the material, so I assume it's taken from inside the lining. There is one tiny snag on the outside edge of the right jacket sleeve. I've stitched up two points in the silk lining of the jacket that had unraveled. The seam binding on the skirt - the hem is very scant - has shattered at some points, and someone in the past has secured the hem with some rather imperfect stitches - they are only visible from the exterior, however.
The suit wears beautifully, I find no other issues to note!
