This vintage 30s jumpsuit is truly fantastic - a rare and lovely piece. I cannot decide if I think these were originally loungewear or beach pajamas. I assumed this was pongee silk, although it is more lustrous and slightly lighter in weight than what I have handled - but other have advised it is simply a raw silk. The bodice is striking and unique, and very different printing style than we usually see, featuring a Chinese phoenix in a rainbow of colors at the left against a green sky, while curled puffs of air decorate the right. The wide, legs are mostly unadorned, with trim of the same print in a wedge at each cuff. These are easy to step into and positively lush to wear. They close on the side with snaps - all newly replaced - and both shoulders tie for an adjustable fit. Self-fabric ties cinch the waist at the back.
These sound like they are on the large end of medium, but the bust has only very small darts. I recommend this for not more than a 39" bust and 29" waist. It ties down well, so a small can easily wear it. If you are an extra small, you can adjust it a bit with the shoulder ties, but it will be very authentically blousey - this look is historically correct, but not as popular with vintage wearers currently.
Label: Best & Co., Paris, New York
Condition: Good, as is with flaws.
This piece has been professional pressed, but I did not have the cleaner clean it as it is very lightweight and fine. The legs, then, have some scattered tiny little marks, and the occasional minor pulled thread. There is a tiny scuff on the back of the right leg that is thin, but not a hole. On the bodice, I have hand stitched the back lefthand strap along the piping edge, and I have replaced all the the side snaps, as most were missing. This piece wears absolutely beautifully, and is really a unique beauty.
