Gorgeous 1950s Dorothy O'Hara in Deep Royal Purple Wool
A rare find - a Dorothy O'Hara that isn't black - this perfectly shaped 1950s beauty is a bit of a departure for the label. Rather than the complex draping of her cocktail dresses, this elegant day dress is executed with a crisp, clean lines. It is a fine, crisp, high quality wool. This piece offers surplice folds that cross the bodice, echoing the shape the v neckline. The are shoulder pads, of course, and hooks at the cuff of each sleeve. Diagonal pleats give definition to the waist. The skirt is still draped with her signature heavy fold to the interior, but the lines are simplified. The dress is ELEGANT. And the fit - it's perfect, how could it be anything but? This phenomenal number closes with a metal zipper up the center back. A piece you simply could not find outside couture today.
The color of this dress did not capture accurately at all - it came out too blue and too dark, and attempting to correct it makes the photos grainy. It is a dark royal purple, saturated and rich. Also, the belt to this piece (not shown) was somehow misplaced during our move, but should you purchase the dress, I will send the belt on when it is unpacked.
Label: Dorothy O'Hara
Condition: Very Good minus
This dress is clean and ready to wear. As noted the belt is missing but will be forward on as soon as I locate it. I have mended two small moth chews in the back of the skirt. Sturdy, crisp and fresh, and so much more stunning than my photos.
