Gorgeous 1940s Lemon Yellow Embroidered Two Piece Set, Mexican or Guatemalan
It's so delightful - and rare - in the States to find genuine vintage in this sort of style that is not a tourist item. This vintage 1950s ensemble set has both fantastic styling is a striking color. The rayon has a flat but somewhat coarse weave and has perfect drape. The blouse is a classic peasant style without darts or tailoring, embellished with black embroidery around the neck and short sleeves. The skirt, which dates this to the late 30s or earlier 40s has a high, wide waist that is similarly embellished, and there is a large band of embroidery lower on the skirt. This piece offers hip pockets, and closes with hooks on the side.

This set is clean, crisp and bright! The blouse has two light spots on the back, and a small 3/4" run in the weave of the rayon.
The embroidery has caused some pulling on the skirt waistband, from being worn snugly There is a vertical run in the rayon down the center back, and a finger tip sized smudge of black at the rear left, and a little cluster of foxing spots at the back right. There is one small hole that I've interfaced near the right pocket. There is another cluster of foxing above the pocket on the front right. There is a faint spot to the center front, and a small scuff to the surface of the rayon above the hem. Sounds worse than the reality - this rare set wears beautifully.
