Glorious Late 1930s Suit in Ivory with Three Dimensional Felt Flowers and Flocked Stems
Vintage late 30s ensemble is springy and fine, a freshly feminine suit made of a slubbed rayon-celanese blend, definitely intended to mimic the texture of raw silk. Perfect through spring and summer, the ivory color is a soft neutral ground for the brilliant embellishment. The sleeves have small shaper pads. The jacket is softly tailored to the waist with double sets of darts. It is embellished with twelve felt flowers in salmon, fuchsia, iris blue and marigold. They are connected with flockled leaves and stems. The skirt has a flared, flattering a-line with six gores. Best of all, these pieces wear perfectly together, but can double as separates. The skirt closes with side buttons, the jacket with the self-fabric buttons at the center front.
Please forgive the overly yellow tones of my "studio" shots. I'm working outdoors while our home has some repairs done and I don't have it down yet!
Label: None Present
Material: Slubbed Rayon-Celanese
Condition: Good plus as is
This suit has not been dry cleaned, as I just don't know that I trust the flocking to hold up. Consequently, there remains a small 1/4" spot on the front of the skirt and a couple faint smidges. There is a 1/4" hole at the center back, backed with self-fabric and bonded with fusible interfacing. Upon very close examination, I think there is the faintest color transfer from the fuchsia flowers. There is a spot in the green "x" of leaves on the left, and one last spot behind the neck. The suit wears so beautifully, you won't notice the flaws when it's worn! Priced with flaws in mind.
