Fantastic Late 1930s Puffed Sleeve, Peaked Shoulder Cocktail Dress
This wonderful late 30s dress is completely one of a kind, and genuinely special . Fashioned from two different frocks, it was clearly a project made by a women who was familiar with making do, mending, and creative tailoring to make her closet fresh. The bodice is a rayon matelassé, in a purple-blue on black. The sleeves are AMAZING, with padded, peaked puffed the the neckline is high, with a clever gathering of material, as if the front were a tucked jabot. There is a defined midwaist and a very brief peplum of black. Attached to this is an eye catching, oversize black belt buckle of brass with stones that look like turquoise. The skirt is gored. The dress closes on the side with snaps and a hidden half-length bell zipper.
Label: None Present, home crafted
Material: Rayon Crepe
Condition: Very Good minus
This dress has been dry cleaned and is ready to wear. The blue pattern in the matelassé has some fading at the underarms. There is a bit of pressing sheen on the peplum-like band. I find no other issues to note! It is homemade and hand finished so the construction is not perfect, but the dress on the whole is excellent.
