Vintage 1920s dress is exceptional, a beautiful and uniquely detailed example of era. The cut is familiar - a drop waist waist dress with a straight silhouette of the decade. The sleeves are full length, the collar is trimmed with a rose colored cotton velveteen. The sleeves are full length. From the construction, both the sleeves and collar seem to be in-era additions - it's clear that this was originally sleeveless with cutaways on the neckline, and to be frank, it could be returned to that style with very little effort. The belt detail at the waist is added as well, again, of similar material done in the era.

The detail at the hem is positively fantastic, with diamond shaped cutaways framed with colorful roses. The green backing that keeps these cutaways from being wholly open is yet another in-era addition, but one I find quite striking. The floral motifs are executed in pink, teal, and gold with larger blown glass beads in accents around the original neckline. The dress slips over the head, and has no closures.

I realize that dresses with sleeves and collars will be less desirable than dresses without. However, I have priced this between those two points, and may alter to the original sleeveless form if this is not claimed by someone who loves her as she is. Being a preservationist, and since the alterations are nearly a century old, I wanted to give it that chance first.

This dress wears beautifully and has been very, very gently hand laundered. The blown glass beads were made by being broken apart from each other, much the same as bugle beads, and these have sharp edges which cut thread, so about ten are missing on the back and four on the front, and a few along the hem. This does not stand out. There are six moth holes, and a bit of fading, to the inset green contrast. However, I find no other issues with the dress -there is no dryness, weakness or breaking to the silk any point. A striking piece that can be versatile for someone willing to unpick some stitches.
