Exceptional Early 1940s Rayon Floral Dress with Piping and Mesh Neckline

  • Product Description

The palette of this 1940s dress is absolute perfection - a sage green rich enough for winter, decked with purple, grey, white, and yellow chrysanthemums and nasturtiums. The stalks and leaves are black. The piece is dramatic, flattering and rich. The neckline is make up of two layers of sage green mesh with 11 bands of piping. The midwaist is an hourglass shape, and there's gathers above for the bust, and below, pleats for the skirt. The sleeves are half-length. The skirt is bias cut and flows with elegant movement. The dress closes on the side with a sturdy metal zipper.

      Condition: Good plus, as is

This dress is freshly dry cleaned and ready to wear. The inner layer of mesh on the neckline has split, and and I have secured it as invisibly as I can, but it is not perfect. The top row of piping. has been restitched as well, sometime in the past, and isn't always perfectly equidistant from the one below it. The zipper placket has snags that make me think it's been caught in the zipper below. Finally there is subtle line of soil at the bottom of the midwaist, along the line of the selvage -this mostly cleaned away and won't stand out when worn. I find no other issues to note.
