1950s Henri Bendel Structured Black Dress with Pleated Rear Skirt

  • Product Description

Vintage late 1950s dress is a striking design by upscale label Henri Bendel. With the weight and cut of this beauty, I would have called it a coat dress if only it opened all the way to the hem.  The collar is large, the bodice a smartly detailed shirtwaist with hidden zipper at the top of the skirt. The sleeves are well constructed to fit the curve of the arm. The skirt at back is deeply pleated and quite full - more full than the fit of the front. The pockets are deep enough to be fully functional. It is interfaced in cotton and has an internal grosgrain waistband.

      Bust: 39.5"
      Waist: 31.5"
      Hips: 55"
      Length: 44"

      Label: Henri Bendel
      Material: Blend, rayon and celanese
      Condition: Fair, as is

This dress is clean and ready to wear. It is sturdy and wears beautifully. It was owned by a theater, and I presume they damaged the underarms, because they are now covered with a black poly knit - this looks like a gusset on the exterior, and it is used as a lining at the interior. If not for this, I would have no issues to note, and I love the style, so I am offering it a wounded bird price.
