1930s Evening Gown in Brilliant Pink-Red Rayon Crepe with Elegant Shirring And Trompe L'oeil Twist Front "Bow"
Vintage late 30s dress is fabulous and unique, executed in a rich rayon crepe. The rayon, made in a very red pink, or pink red (it depends on the lighting) was difficult to capture accurately, but it's a beautiful hue in all settings. The gown features a clever trompe l'oeil effect on both the sleeves and bodice - there is a twist, and then the "sash" of the ties are stitched down triangles of self-fabric. This treatment makes up the cuffs and the waist of the gown. The neckline is a v, which is further accentuated by a v line on the bodice, into which the bust is decadently shirred. The skirt is made up of five very generous, bias cut gores for an irresistible drape. This gown closes on the side with a sturdy metal zipper.
*I apologize for the wrinkles in this gown, I was moving quickly prior to my move, and this was not sufficiently steamed.
Label: Sibley, Boylston St, Boston
Material: Rayon Crepe, with a sateen finish back
Condition: Very Good minus
This gown is clean and ready to wear. There is a single tiny pinhole from a price tag at the upper by near the neck. There are some little pulls in the rayon weave scattered here and there, but nothing that detracts. This gown is heavy and sturdy and presents beautifully - it's magnificent.
