  • Product Description

Antique Edwardian dress, circa 1908. This lovely dress features the high neck popular in the 1900s, and just a touch of beadwork on the lustrous silk. It's elegant but not fussy - a wearable antique piece. This piece uses layered closures through the front - a dress you can actually put on yourself without help. The outer layer is the finest silk, semi-sheer when held to the light, but not a chiffon. It is lustrous and very soft.  This rests over a black silk taffeta lining that gives it body. The waist features a built in sash, with asymmetric drape. Above it, the center of the bodice features bugle and seed beads on net. Some of these have a white residue that makes me think that they may have been painted. The sleeves are that gorgeous, tiered style the Edwardian era did so well, with a shorter drape over fitted, sheer silk crepe. The high neckline has stays to support it.

      ✂-----Measurements

      Bust: 38"
      Waist: 30"
      Hips: 41"
      Length: 50"

      Label: None Present
      Material: Silk
      Condition: Good plus, as is

This dress is sturdy and ready to wear. As noted, some beads have a white residue like paint that chipped off long ago. It's very structurally sound, with the taffeta lining in solid condition without breakage. There is a small area of chiffon lining, at the interior of the collar and behind the beads, and that has shattered, mostly at the neck, but it's nothing you'd note from the exterior. There is one 1/4" x 1/8" hole on the silk by the front right hip with a nearby pinhole. The hem is somewhat badly done, probably a length alteration in era. I find no other issues to note!
