Vintage late 1930s dress is sheer but shockingly sturdy in a rayon crepe - it's heavier than chiffon, but delightfully translucent. This c. 1938/9 style offers gathered shoulders for the full sleeves, which come to a fitted cuff, which close with snaps. This piece is all romance and softness, with flattering gathers at the bust, the midwaist and skirt. And this midwaist! It's marvelous, I've never seen anything like it - a curving heart shape the arcs under the bust and the point makes a basque waist. Seen flat, the sides seem too extended to make a heart, but once it's on the body, the intended effect is immediately apparently. I cannot tell if this is intended as a wedding dress or not - it seems likely, but is not quite full length. The dress closes on the side with a sturdy metal zipper.
Label: None Present, likely homemade
Material: Rayon Crepe
Condition: Good, as is
This dress is has been gently and washed and then dry cleaned and is ready to wear. There are three small holes - one in the front right of the skirt, one at the back left hem, and one in the midwaist. One edge of a flower frayed at the dry cleaner, which I didn't noticed until the photos, and it's now been repaired to the best of my ability. There is some very, very subtle foxing throughout that didn't entirely lift when soaked, but it is mild enough that it would not detract from use as a wedding gown at all. Two of the covered buttons at the back of the neck have lost their tops. The flaws are taken into account in the price.
