Rare Late 1910s/Early 1920s Dolman Sleeve Dress with Asymmetric Detail and Pleated Inset Silk Drape, As Is

  • Product Description

This is fantastically interesting piece comes from my own closet. It's as-is, which is I'd hoarded it, so read the condition notes, but it really does present well. The style was a bit hard to date, as it has the dolman sleeves of 1918, and the pleated insets I'd expect closer to 1920. The neckline high and shallow, with a smart collar. The dolman sleeves are VERY deep, it's quite unusual. The dress closes with snaps, hidden behind the decorative asymmetric placket which is embellished, neckline to hem, with brass beads. I love the luster of the cream and orange silk, and the bright contrasts of the pleated silk chiffon and added velvet flower. A striking piece in a hard to find size.

This dress is clean and ready to wear. The thing about this dress is that it is more flawed than that looks when you wear it. If you scroll through all the images on zoom, you'll see multiple little moth chews, a few of which you'll note have little stitches to repair them. The worst of these areas is the mid lower back of the skirt. The thing is, they don't stand out when you wear it, but if you hold the dress to the light you'll see there's ten times more little holes and thin spots than you realized, especially the back of the right sleeves. There are a couple spots in the chiffon section,. But I want to emphasize that for the most part, you'll never see these flaws when you wear it. It has been gently priced with condition in mind.
